Film director/writer Deon Taylor and actor Laz Alonso from the new movie “TRAFFIK” sat down with me to discuss, the importance of bringing awareness to human trafficking in their new film. The minority made & funded film is being distributed by CodeBlack entertainment which is a division of  Lionsgate which focuses on niche African American audiences.

Deon Taylor creator of the comedy “Meet The Blacks” explained how films like this are unusual to make for African American directors, not that we don’t care but it’s an issue that is rarely discussed in our communities.

“Although slavery is commonly thought to be a thing of the past, human traffickers generate hundreds of billions of dollars in profits by trapping millions of people in horrific situations around the world, including here in the U.S. Traffickers use violence, threats, deception, debt bondage, and other manipulative tactics to force people to engage in commercial sex or to provide labor or services against their will.”- POLARIS

The topic itself was brought to him by his daughter after she was given notice from her school. As laz Alonso mentioned in the above interview almost 62% of human traffic victims in the united states are of African descent. The featured film is very powerful, it will open your eyes to an overlooked subject in our country. I recommend everyone go watch it.
